Daily Exercises to Strengthen Your Core

Training your core is for more than just a 6 pack or a flat stomach.

When we think of training abs or core we usually think of doing hundreds of crunches and washboard abs. But training your core is for more than just a 6 pack or flat stomach. It improves your balance and stability, reduces and prevents pain delays the ageing process and improves all round performance. Check out these 4 exercises that will help to strengthen you core for both aesthetics and functionality.

Exercises

Plank

This exercise is great for conditioning your core muscles. Can be done as a high plank or low plank as shown in the picture but with both variations be sure to keep your back flat and engage your core.

Russian Twist

This exercise helps to engage the obliques to ensure we are targeting all areas. This can be done with the feet on the ground or with feet raised for more of a challenge. Also remember the more you twist the more you engage the muscles and get better results

Under-leg Claps

Engage your core as you bring each knee to your chest. This exercise challenges your core as you hold the hollow pose while alternating knees. If this is too challenging try lowering the leg that is not bent to the floor

Crunches

Last but not least everyone’s favourite, crunches! Remember to engage your core and not to put too much pressure on your neck when lifting up. Remember to breathe! Engage your abs and inhale. Exhale and lift your upper body, keeping your head and neck relaxed.
